Obstacle 65: Materialism

“If money is your hope for independence, you will never have it. The only real security that a man can have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience and ability.” ~Henry Ford

Materialism smashes power. If your life is the pursuit of money so that you can buy luxuries or have more than the other guy, your power is already diminished.

Materialism is ephemeral and its satisfaction fleeting. Keeping up with the Jones’  is  futile. Rather, enjoy abundance as a giver. Your identity should never entirely be wrapped up in what you have.

“It is not what you have that makes people look up to you, it’s who you are.” ~Elvis Presley

Check out your inner needs. ASK: What gives me the most pleasure? What elevates my feelings of self-worth? What am I doing to serve others? What are my standards of excellence?

You can’t buy success, it is earned.

Opportunity Step: Detach from luxury today.
