Obstacle 9: Avarice

“Riches do not consist in the possession of treasures, but in the use made of them.” ~Napoleon Bonaparte I

Avarice ambushes riches. It is the insatiable pursuit of or love of money. Avarice is a selfish greed that ruins success.  Henry Ford has said that if your pursue success for the sake of money, money you will never gain.

Don’t let money shortchange you. Parsimony or any extreme love that is unchecked is a cruel, powerful master. Money and riches are only tools which you can and should acquire, but you mater it rather than let it master you.

Giving to others is often a catalyst for greater bounty. But, giving need not always be monetary; often it is better if it is not. The gift of time or other kind gestures of service broadens your sense of self worth and value to humankind. Give more, get more satisfaction.

John McCormack in Self Made in America offers, “I can almost guarantee that if your goal in life is to make money, it is almost certain that you never will.”
